By: Michaelle The Israeli-Palestinian conflicts have been continuing on for more than 60 years. This needs to end or at the very least be resolved and quickly. The best solution for this will be the two-state solution. This solution places the Palestinians and Israeli in two separate states in their own individual state directly next to Israel. So the question is what should we do? Well, I am a strong believer in the two-state solution. This solution will keep the Israelis happy and hopefully the Palestinians. This solution will give the Palestinians the comfort and security of their own state while preventing war, hatred and bickering if both groups were to be put together. The Israeli-Jews will be grateful for still continuing to own their own state with the City of Jerusalem in it. As former Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rubin stated,“I believe that in the in the long run, separation between Israel and the Palestinians is the best solution for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” One of the main reasons the Palestinians are unhappy is because they do not have a land to call their own. They need to have their own state, where they can thrive, grow and build their own education and hospitals. Only about half of the Palestinians have a job. The unemployment rate is estimated to be about 45.5%. Even though Palestinians trade amongst themselves, half of them aren’t employed, they are not allowed to trade with other countries, or have any significant foreign investment. In addition, there are no significant plans to create jobs. If they had their own state, they would be able to trade with other countries. Foreign companies may be more inclined to build factories or sell their product. Yet, nobody wants to invest in them because of all of the instability in the region. “Moreover, resolving the mother of all problems - the Israeli-Palestinian question - requires cooperation between Europe and the U.S.”, says Romano Prodi Italian Prime Minister. Something most people do not know is us Americans can and will be affected by this conflict even though it is halfway around the world. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict can affect how much we pay for gas. You would be surprised to know the U.S. Government gives Israel 3 billion dollars a year for military aid for Israel to defend themselves against their enemies. If the Palestinains get their own state, Israel would have one less enemy. This will make the region more stable. Lastly, I believe we have a moral obligation. Everybody has a right to their own country and what they do with it. According to Article 15 of the UN Human Rights, It states, "Everyone has a right to a nationality”. This means everyone has the right to their own country or state, and the right to change it no matter what. The Palestinians don’t have a country right now to call their own.
